Base Layers for autumns
Think long sleeves, heavier cardigans, cashmere sweaters, & knit dresses.
What are we seeing?
Lace & Sheer Mesh:
Long sleeves are getting a makeover with lace and mesh details this season. These are going to be the perfect elevated base pieces for everything! Try pairing under a denim jumpsuit or a matching tweed set!
Rolled hems:
If we aren’t careful, Winter outfits can easily look weighed down. Rolled hems are making their way onto cashmere sweaters, basic long sleeves, and even sweater dresses. These hems soften up the look of outfits while keeping the cozy element. Try layering a rolled hem sweater over a button-down, and add a vest.
High necks (funnel necks):
This year it seems like were going beyond the traditional turtleneck. 😅 We’re seeing more exaggerated shapes in the form of scarf attachments and capes!
Embellishments & Wintery Patterns: Winter brings out all the sequins and patterns! Pair an argyle sweater and button-down with an embellished collar!
Bottoms for autumns
Bottoms, just like outerwear, are one of the easiest ways to introduce texture and fun silhouettes to any outfit.
What are we seeing?
We’re here for all the texture! You might want to add these to your next Winter outfit:
Suede/Velvet
Classic Corduroy ( I finally see the vision. Sorry for the dramatics, mom 🫶)
Coated finishes (sealed sparkles, sheen-like finishes)
Studs & Bling
On to popular silhouettes… -
Barrel Pants:
You either love them or hate them. Barrels come in a range of extremes, some of which actually work across different heights and body types. Before ruling them out completely, let’s see if some of these options pique your interest 👀. Try pairing with a classic long sleeve and a moto jacket to balance out proportions.
Wide-Legs:
They’re making their mark! We’re loving the raw hems on denim, and double panels on wide-leg track pants! How about you? They add a bit of texture, movement, and an overall relaxed feel to any outfit. Front tucking one of those scarf sweater/blouses with a wide leg denim or trouser pant would be so cute!
Bootcuts:
The cut to divide generations. THE cut that would once send any zillennial into hysterics — have we recovered, friends? Well, bootcuts are in! And, well, they live up to their name for sure; they look good with any boot, and they’re actually really cute with fashion sneakers (especially those with a bit of a platform)
Cropped Pants:
How are we feeling about wearing these this Winter? Especially my 5’8 and up crew? This Winter, cropped pants are being paired with a range of shoes: ankle boots, glove boots, slouchy boots, cowboy boots, etc. Spot the trend?
Am I going to dig through my spring clothes to find cropped pants to pair with my new winter boots? I don’t know, friends. I don’t think I can convince myself of the high waters with boots look on me (childhood trauma✨, ifykyk)
tip: You can always try something once. The face test will immediately give you your answer.
Outerwear for autumns
& additional versatile layers
Winter is the time to let your layers do all the talking, especially those top and outermost layers. Being intentional with which ones you pick and how you introduce them into outfits will make getting dressed more fun!
What are we seeing?
We’ve spotted some of those familiar winter classics, and a few new arrivals that will make you raise an eyebrow (but in the best way)!
Funnel Necks:
It’s bringing a twist to some of your Winter staples like ponchos. Think Inspector Clouseau but ✨stylish✨
Bubble Coats & Vests:
It wouldn’t be cold weather fashion without this classic. Pop these over a sweater and trouser duo, or over any sweater dress.
Moto & Bomber Jackets:
Each of these jackets bring its own vibe to the table. Moto jackets give you an edgy flair, while a classic bomber gives a relaxed cool-girl vibe. But have you noticed they’re fusing the two? We’re getting a mix of silhouettes and fusions of texture! Notice some moto jackets are looking more billowy, while some bomber jackets have a bit more structure in the collars and have swapped their classic satin-y, nylon finish for leather? We’re really excited about these! Add a fun hoodie underneath.
Barn & Utility Jackets:
You’ll notice some of these jackets are designed collarless!
LOTS of Pullovers
On to the hottest textures…
Faux Fur & ANIMAL:
Animal print and anything fuzzy are ramping up! Especially in outerwear. Notice the long leopard trench coats, faux cowhide barn jackets, glamorous faux fur peacoats, and fuzzy pullovers? We’re here for it!
Suede & Tweed:
These are the perfect pieces for creating monochromatic looks! You may steer away from a monochrome moment because it may feel a bit dull or flat. Besides mixing the right shades of one color, the key lies in playing with texture! Introducing a fabric like suede or tweed can take your outfit from feeling flat to three-dimensional. Give it a try!
Faux Leather
Accessories for autumns
tip: Details = Dimension
Whether subtle or bold, the details matter! Use accessories to put the finishing touches on your outfits this Winter.
Think tights, hats, gloves, scarves, and sparkle.
Ways you might play with accessories this season:
Tights/Knee-high Socks:
Put these under skirts, dresses, and even your favorite jeans that are little too distressed for the season. Go for brights, neutrals, and even ones that sparkle!
Hats:
Do you want to go sporty, chic, or full blown maximalist? Top your look off with a classic baseball cap/beanie, beret, or maybe a fuzzy bucket hat
Jewelry (Final touches!):
My one goal in life: build a jewelry stack that would blow my 8-year-old aspiring maximalist mind, and get the nod of approval from my refined, fully arrived- maximalist older self ✨
But maybe you don’t want a maximalist’s stack 😂 but you do want a few good pieces you can grab for everyday. Every great stack needs a solid ring, bracelet, and necklace.
